How to fix toilet leak from outside outlet pipe?

We have an old caroma toilet. The toilet has a mild leak from the outside back outlet pipe. It seems to be leaking from one of the seams.

I will try to send you a photo to show you.

Do you know what could possibly be the cause? Will we be able to try to fix the leak ?

Whenever you get a leak near the flush pipe it could be either coming from a failed O ring, a cracked flush pipe or a split cistern outlet. These would be the most common areas where the failure could be originating from. The O ring and flush pipe can be repaired and replaced, but if the crack is in the cistern you'll have no choice but to replace the entire cistern. Depending on the type of cistern you'll be using the price of some units are almost equivalent to the price of a complete toilet suit.

Once you post the photos of your cistern we'll get a better idea of its condition. We can also make suggestions on which cistern will be compatible with your toile suit.

i have attached a photo of the outside of the toilet outlet pipe where it is leaking from the white band is wet, it is an old caroma toilet ,

can this be repaired?

Hi @Flora1 , I have a Caroma toilet where the the seal had a slight leak, quick fix was to use a hose clamp and fit it over the seal, it worked for me, if it doesn’t work for you, you will have to get a plumber to install a new seal, these seals usually perish over time and need re placement.

You will need to measure the circumference of your seal to get the sized hose clamp.

Looking at the photo you shared it's giving me the impression of a wax seal. In these situations, I recommend engaging the services of a licensed plumber. They will either replace the wax seal with a new set or modernize the fitting using a Holman 100mm DWV PVC Standard Pan Collar. This is on the condition that there is enough space to attach the new fitting to the back of your toilet suit.

Thanks Eric,

We have previously placed a wax seal on another toilet which we did ourselves, moulded it in place for a slight leak and it seems to work, we didn’t engage a plumber so we might try this again and hopefully it will stop the leak
