How to treat Grevillea with browning leaves?

Hi everyone,

First time gardener here and about 6 months ago I bought a Grevillea when I noticed lorikeets stopping by on my apartment balcony and things were great to begin with but lately this is how the leaves are looking 💔

I tried readjusting how much and how often I water it but aside from that didn't want to experiment with things until I knew exactly what was happening.

If anyone has any advice or insight on how to tackle this, it would be really appreciated! The plant is still flowering non-stop but I'd love for it to look healthier 😅

First prune off the affected brown leaves and make sure no leaves in the pot in case of potential fungal infection. Use fungicides for plants in that case It doesn't look fungal directly. I might use a Rose multipurpose spray

The rose spray controls a range of pests and fungi it doesn't hurt to have a spray ready in your garden for a bunch of plants and hit them early as symptoms emerge

Consider these blanket solutions and see if they match your plants situation to work towards a cure.

We have had some hot weather this can cause leaf damage so it might recover Autumn coming up.

Good drainage, avoid over watering avoid over fertilizing, check for any pests on the plant.

Your Grevillea might be dealing with a mix of pests and environmental stress. The chewed leaves suggest caterpillars or beetles, while the squiggly lines inside the leaves sound like leaf miners. Browning tips could be from inconsistent watering, wind exposure, or even too much fertilizer.

For the bugs, try Yates 200ml Nature’s Way Vegie and Herb Concentrate. It’s an insecticidal soap that works well against soft-bodied pests like mites, aphids, and whiteflies while being safe for beneficial insects. Just spray it on the leaves (including underneath) and reapply as needed. If you spot caterpillars, you can pick them off by hand or use an eco-friendly spray like this one.

For overall plant health, a good feed with Neutrog 4kg Bush Tucker Native Fertiliser will help. It’s designed specifically for Australian natives like Grevilleas and won’t overload them with phosphorus. Just sprinkle it on the soil and water it in.

Since your Grevillea is in a pot, check the drainage—too much or too little water can stress the plant. If it’s in direct sun on your balcony, consider moving it to a slightly more sheltered spot during the hottest part of the day. Hopefully, with a bit of care, it’ll bounce back, and the lorikeets will keep visiting!
