How do I repair loose bath spout?

Hi DIY folks. I'm out of my element here.

The spout for my bathtub has loosened itself to the point that when I turn the taps on to fill the bath, the spout ejects itself from the base and water shoots into the air. Fun.

So far I've tried:

• Replacing the o-rings. It seemed to sit tighter in the base but it still wasn't tight enough.
• Buying a packet of multi-sized grub screws for that tiny hole in the side of the base. None of them fit and there was no grub screw in there before. I'm not sure whether a grub screw is required because the hole doesn't extend all the way through the base housing.

Is this something that can be repaired or do I need to replace the spout and base for the spout? If so, what's the easiest way to do so?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your questions about your bath spout.

If you look at your second photo, you'll notice that you've placed O rings on all three sections. The last bottom section must not have an O ring, its purpose is to be the section where the grub screw travels into and prevents the spout from coming loose. If a rubber O ring is in that section, it will prevent the grub screw from travelling properly into the channel. I recommend removing the bottom O ring and try to install the grub screw again.

However, if the grub screw section has cross threaded and is no longer properly engaging with the brass body of the spout, I can only suggest engaging the services of a licensed plumber and having them replace the bath spout with a new one.
