How to stop Philips Easykey Smart Lock Strike Plate hitting door?

Hi there, I bought the Philips Easykey 7300 5HB smart lock from Bunnings, but the strike plate that came with the lock is flat. It doesn’t have a lip, so every time the door closes, the latch hits the door frame and is chipping away at the wood! Can anyone please suggest a work around?

the strike plate looks quite unique so I’m not sure if there would be a suitable one available with a lip!

Would it be possible for you to take a few photos of the striker plate and where the damage to the door is occurring when it closes. Once our members see the installation of the striker plate, we can then make recommendations on how to move forward.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your Philips striker plate.

Thanks for sharing those photos of your door frame and striker plate. In order to protect the timber frame, I suggest covering the edge with a Metal Mate 12 x 12 x 1.4mm 3m Aluminium Equal Angle - Silver. This will protect the edge of the timber frame, and the aluminium will absorb the leading edge of the latch.

Mmmm waiting to see the photos as it might show what I suspect is happening.

Guessing atm -

Is your strike plate (the part the lock is going into) less then the surface of the edge of the door or level with the door jamb?

Is the latch part on the door in deep enough is another question that comes to mind.

I cant imagine them selling a lock where if its needed its not part of the kit. Thats what leeds me towards something being missaligned.

Looking at your pics and that plate. The plate looks a little proud of the timber? I am wondering if the door latch and the plate are mounted level with the surface of the door? The striker should really slide easily over the edge. I would think if the lock is supposed to have a curved edge then the kit would have one. That leeds me towards thinking that either the plate with the screws that looks a little proud or the latch is out of alignment.

Unfortunately thats a pretty standard result for most brands of smart and not so smart mortice locks. Very of them have an extended turned latch slide in section, which means the latch will always rub against the timber jamb before the plate. I have installed many smart locks across several brands and they are mostly all the same with no option for a different strike plate. The best you can do is lightly sand the strike edge area smooth. And even though this is not ideal, it will at least look aesthetically better.
