The project
This D.I.Y. project was the full modernisation of the original laundry Installed some 44 years ago. It was outdated and reflected a poor utilisation of space. The laundry was out of the 80's. The goal was to be effective and modern, whilst connecting to the outdoors, as this is a main thorough fare.
This included the complete removal of the back wall, Gyprock, new sliding internal and external doors, new storage cupboards alongside a new shower and toilet in the adjoining room. Tiling of all wet areas opening up the entrance onto the back deck improving access and increasing the property value. A huge success!
Steps
Step 1
Planning: I used the Kaboodle online planner. I found the planner a great visual aid and very easy to use including a 3D view. This step provided a diagram for the engineer to review and a full bill of materials with an initial estimate.
A project plan and timeline was created in Excel to organise all tasks and ensure dependencies for each task were covered. Required trades were engaged: Tiler, electrician, plumber.

Step 2
After planning and estimation, the demolition began.

Step 3
After demolition the following tasks were completed: Supports for both sliding doors, electrical work, plumbing, installing both doors frames, timber noggin supports for the on-the-wall dryer to be hung, top storage cupboards, and inside wall tap fittings.
Step 4
Installed Cavi-T-Bar from Bunnings using Proppa wall supports.

Step 5
The right Gyprock was installed for dry and wet areas followed by several applications of water proofing purchased from Bunnings.

Step 6
Next came the tiler who laid the cement screed. Let that sit for several days then began tiling walls and floor.
