How to replace carpet grippers?

Hi there, I took off the carpet and underlay.

I saw carpet gripper with nails. They are rotten and I took some of them.

while taking off the nail, some of the concrete has come off. How to fix that before laying new carpet? Is that necessary to fix before laying another new carpet because they will go under the carpet anyway?

Also while putting new carpet gripper, will the nail  go under the concrete when hitting with hammer? The concrete seems solid and feels like it will break the concrete.

what is another option if available in place of carpet gripper?

Thank you for your question about carpet grippers.

Concrete nails, which are what attaches the carpet gripper to your concrete, will drive into the concrete and hold the gripper in place. It will fracture the concrete, but this doesn't cause issues until after they are removed.

There is no need to fill the holes from the old concrete, I would just line your carpet grippers up so that the new nails don't go into the old holes.

To create a butt join, you can use carpet seaming tape. The carpet is laid so they overlap slightly, then a straight knife cut is made through both layers of carpet on the exact same line. The carpet seaming tape is then applied to the underside of the carpet to create a perfect join.
