How to add expansion gap around kitchen units?

Hi, 

I'm about to install some hanwood flooring in our open planned kitchen. 

How does the expansion gap work against kitchen units.

I was going to install the flooring first and put the units on top. But after reading the installation guide, it tells you not to. 

The picture below I've already done this to a little kitchenette.

Also were having the carpet installed later. Do I need to put something down first? (Bead) in between the flooring and carpet?

Your flooring needs a 10mm expansion gap between it and the cabinetry, meaning it shouldn't run underneath. The cabinetry should be installed first, and the flooring should be laid up to it, extending just past where the kickboard will be positioned. However, it must stop at least 10mm before reaching the adjustable feet under the cabinet. Once the kickboard is installed, it will give the appearance that the flooring runs underneath while still allowing for the necessary expansion gap.

For cabinetry that doesn't have a kickboard or includes side panels, the flooring should be run up to the face or be carefully cut to fit around it, again maintaining the 10mm gap. You can then cover this gap with a Hanwood 2.4m Vinyl Wrap Floating Floor Quad Trim for a neat finish.

Regarding the transition between your flooring and carpet, the installation method depends on the type of cover strip you plan to use. Some require an initial fixing before laying the carpet, while others can be installed afterward. If you have a particular style in mind, let us know, and we can advise on the best approach.
