How to replace weeds with lawn?

Hi everyone, I dn know much about gardening. Need advice. My back yard had lot of wild grass like in the photo. I pulled out from couple of locations now it looks like as per photo. What should i do make my lawn looks good green and also how can i get rid of wild grass. Any suggestions please.

It looks like your lawn is struggling a bit, and it’s a bit tricky to tell what’s wild grass and what’s your actual lawn. How large is this area? If it’s mainly just the section shown in your photos, your best bet might be to start fresh.

One option is to kill off all the existing grass and weeds with herbicide, turn over the compacted soil, and add a good layer of topsoil before laying fresh instant turf—Buffalo grass would be a great choice for a low-maintenance, hardy lawn. This would give you an instant green lawn with much less hassle than trying to rehabilitate what’s already there.

Alternatively, if you’d rather improve what you have, you could continue hand weeding or use a selective herbicide like Winter Grass Killer to target the wild grasses. Once the weeds are under control, aerate the soil to improve drainage and health, then reseed with the same grass variety you already have. Adding a top dressing will also help encourage strong, even growth. It’ll take more time, but with regular care, you’ll see an improvement.
