How to patch a wall after AC removal?

Hi,

Recently I replaced the AC unit in my house with new system, the new unit was bigger so had to be installed on a different wall.

After installation, the old unit was removed and now there are large holes in the wall (it seems the initial installers didn't do a good job).

I want to patch the walls, I am very new to DIY (as I have recently moved to my first property), so any assistance, suggestion

on how I can proceed will be greatly appreciated. I have attached the photos.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about patching your wall.

The general steps are to clean the surface of the plasterboard sandpaper. This will remove the rough edges of the plasterboard to get it ready for patching. You'll then need to attach a few pieces of timber behind the hole of the plasterboard. These will serve as supports when you place the repair panel in front. In regards to the irregularly shaped hole it would be better to trim it out and turn it into a proper rectangle so that you won't have a hard time cutting a patching piece from the Gyprock CSR 530 x 530 x 10mm Mini Plaster Repair Panel.

Because the holes are so big, it's not possible to use the Pfeiffer 15cm Plaster Repair Wall Patch. I've placed some guides below that will give you a better idea of how the repair is done.

Your response is very helpful. I have another query and instead of creating another post thought to use this post, as highlighted in the below screenshot how can this gap be filled\repaired is using 'no more gaps' the best option or there are better ways.

The Selleys 475g No More Gaps Interior Multipurpose Gap Filler should work for this gap. There is also the option of using the Parfix 500g Ready To Use Multipurpose Filler. This will leave you with a much tidier finish as it can be sanded down and painted over.
