How to add a dog bath in the laundry?

Hi 👋

I want to install an area to wash my dogs in the laundry.

Ideally, I'd like to replace my existing cabinet with a sink with a base cabinet with a shower tray installed on top.

Firstly, can I just install a shower base on a cabinet? Or do I need to do something special?

What do I need for the side panels? Could I use the wet area panels or do they need to be secured to a fixed board? (Wall Art 2400 x 1200 x 3mm Designer White Tile Wet Area Wall / Shower Panel - Bunnings Australia)

What else should I consider?

An tips or advice?

Thanks for sharing your question about adding a dog bath in your laundry. Would it be possible for you to post a photo of your laundry along with its measurements. This will give our members a better idea of your current laundry lay out. It is possible to copy the lay out you've posted, but space will be the issue. I propose looking at the Estilo 1200mm x 900mmt 4 Lip Centre Rear Outlet Shower Base for your shower base.

Because of the large amount of moisture and wetness the dog will generate, I suggest building a plinth similar to the ones used by a bath. You can have it built to the height that you require and cover the bottom and the walls with tiles. Using tiles will guarantee that it will be able to put up with any sudden roughness or surprises the dog will generate. There is a very high probability that placing a cabinet underneath will result in it getting very wet and damaged.

I like your thinking about a raised area for a dog wash station 🙂 Any chance of some photos and measurements of your laundry. It could help us out with some ideas.

I have been looking at those panels for awhile and my fist thought was yeah, good idea.But as @EricL has mentioned a lot of water splashing about on a raised surface could cause long term issues. It really would have to be a wet area built as a wet area not using modified things.

One thing you could consider is a lino type surface for areas as well. Or remove an old school laundry tub to install a shower base as you have mentioned. Not sure about the sizing that you have to play with is all.

Thanks for your replies - sorry I have been AWOL and am now getting back to this project.

This is my laundry.

There is a large window (143cm wide x 122cm high) along the back wall approx 113 from the floor.

The small boxed out section protrudes 340mm from the window wall and 190mm from the side wall. I think this houses pipes etc from the bathroom above.

I have an area approx 850 x 1700 to build the dog bath and any cabinetry. The drain/waste is where the yellow cross is and the taps are on the wall where the yellow line is.

I have seen this on pinterest and quite like the look and think it maybe something that works with my space:

I used the ikea planner because I found it easier, but would this be an option using a 60mm base cabinet and installing tapware on the edge and then building the dog bath next to that? I added a 20mm cabinet on the other end but happy to have the whole lot be the dog bath. If I could get a small cupboard or drawer underneath the bath area that would be ideal!

🙂 Yeah i know those longish lead times between planning and continuing well.

Going through your sketches/drawings I think I have it right in my head (A photo of the area itself would help out a great deal if possible)

So you have a benchtop then the doggy bath/area then bench then door. (I did think of shifting the washing machine and using the whole window wall but then realise dyou may have a reason so will stick to your question 🙂

I like the idea of a raised basin of some kind, I even like the idea of a panel on the right (next to the door) to stop doggos "running away" so easily from the water. The tap on the edge of the bench, not such a fan of. Maybe a tall upside down U hanging nosel mounted along the edge of the wall instead?

You could feed the waste back towards the drain waste in yellow via the back of the cupboards. As well as extend the tap via the stainless wrapped flexible water hoses (not sure what their max length is) Building a bath area and then waterproofing it would definently be doable, My only suggestion height wise is to play around with a cardboard box the size f the base you want and hav it sit on various things to get the "perfect" height for your back and washing a doggo.

Thanks @Dave-1, I have a huge washing machine (approx 800mm square and 1300mm tall) and played around with it on either side wall but it felt like it looked bigger on the side walls but happy to reconsider.... Here is a photo with it on the side wall where I was planning to build the new cabinet/bath area.

I had considered using the corner but wasn't sure if that would be too hard or impractical to use...

Mmmmm Think next to the water pipe enclosure would be best (was juggling it round the room in my head and it would be problomatic with a bench immediatly opposite it)

So I think the comfiguration you have in mind is a good one, I would only change that right hand side 200mm cabinet to a thin but solid piece of timber/something That goes higher then the bench level to help contain the doggos when they are enjoying spa day. Maybe even go as far as to make that end stand as high as that metal stand you have existing on the left and make the new bar run across the bench plus the bath area?
