How to cut MDF shutters?

I have removed 5 windows of shutters and need to cut to 1.5 length for hard waste. i have a number of Ryobu tools but not a circular saw. Any tips on the easiest way to cut frame and shutters to length. I have a reciprocator tool and standard drill and lots of batteries. Unsure if there is an attachment suitable. (PS tried to give shutters away to no avail).

Thank you for your question.

When you say you have a reciprocator tool, do you mean a reciprocating saw such as this Ryobi 18V ONE+ Compact Reciprocating Saw?

If so, then this is perfect for the job. I'd simply cut out the top and bottom of the frame. I imagine this will make the shutters fall out of place to be collected up and disposed of. You can then cut the long side pieces at their midpoint, so they fit under the length requirement.

If you don't have a reciprocating saw, then this can all be done fairly easily with a hand saw.

Thank you for the reply. Yes it'a the reciprocating saw - I use for small garden pruning with I think a garden pruning blade. Would there be a specific blade I should buy. Kind regards. Ann

Hi @Aedp1,

If you were trying to get nice clean cuts, it would be worth grabbing something else, but with a rough cut before throwing it away, it's not particularly important. Any blade will work fine.

Make sure you wear gloves and eye protection, and put the shutters in a spot where it is comfortable to cut.
