How to fix leaking caroma cistern - inlet seal?

Just wondering if anyone can suggest how to access the inlet seal on this unit. I’ve replaced the outlet seal but still have overflow into the pan. Adjusted the water height and it looks like the inlet seal needs replacing. Releasing the black cap is the challenge - cautious about going too hard with the plastic parts!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your toilet cistern.

I suggest trying to disengage the float of the inlet valve first if you can. Should you be able to take it off you can then turn the top of the inlet valve and get access to the inlet valve washer. Another option is to unscrew the entire inlet valve out. This will allow you to work on the valve without having to work in such a cramped space. But since you have the inlet valve removed, perhaps it's time to upgrade to a better unit such as the Fluidmaster Bottom Entry Toilet Inlet Valve. It is compatible with the current cistern and is easy to adjust.
