How to build a bulkhead for barn door?

Hello!

I am needing to build a bulkhead over my floor to ceiling theatre doorway so I can attach a barn door! My question is what is the best way to do this? Build the wood frame attach, drywall etc?

or build straight into the cavity already there? Also will this bulkhead be load bearing enough to support a sliding barn door?

the area is a bit awkward and next to the front door, but I have no other door options!!

any help/ advice would be amazing

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about building a bulkhead.

I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - How to attach barn door track to header board? by @Hogeypokes. My teammate Jacob makes an excellent recommendation on how to build a bulkhead to attach your sliding door. Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend making sure that the other side of your wall has a timber stud to attach to. This is to make sure that the bulkhead will be fully supported and both sides of the bulkhead will be secure.   

When building your bulkhead, this would also be a good opportunity to add more horizontal noggins so that you can anchor the rail properly to the bulkhead frame.
