Bird House Construction Project

We decided to try a different approach to this Bird House Construction Project. Our last attempt failed to provide a safe place for birds to nest.

Apparently reducing the size of a possum box design makes a perfect resting place for small possums. We've had two use it so far.

This time we used some pre-cut marine ply and upcycled some wood scraps to make our improved (and hopefully bird friendly) version.

Step 1

The essential BLUE paintLooking for inspirationMeasuring and marking where to cut

We started with some pre-cut marine plywood and Jack painted them BLUE!

We looked at a birdhouse Jack bought online, to give us some ideas on shapes and sizes. We then measured and marked the wood, ready for cutting.

Step 2

We had the pieces cut to size, some quad for extra support, and a base to help everything stay in place while we put it together.We had fun working out where each part went.

Step 3

We did some gluingWe did some screwingWe added some dowel perches

Step 4

 We glued supports from scraps onto the roof peicesWe nailed them on, and when it didn't work, we pulled the nails out and tried againWhen we got the roof into position, we used clamps to hold it in place while the glue dries and filled the gaps with scrap wood.

Step 5

We used some scrap plasterboard angle spray painted BLUE to cap the roof peak.We think it looks great.We hope some birds move in soon
