Hi @Noel28,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
As the pegboard needs a cavity behind it for hooks to sit in, you will need to attach battens to the wall, then the pegboard to the battens.
I'd suggest using a stud finder to locate and mark your studs, then use Zenith 10G x 50mm Timber Screws to attach 42 x 19mm DAR Pine Premium horizontally across those studs.
You can then use Zenith 8G x 20mm Button Head Stitching Timber Screws to attach the pegboard to your battens.
This will give you a strong connection that transfers the weight of anything hung from the pegboard into the studs, which will ensure it is well supported.
Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
Thank you for your help, I followed your advice and the board is now up and in service. I have to admit I was a bit nervious in starting the project as I live alone and am 96 years old and the weight of the board made it hard to hold in position to get the top fastening screws in place.
That's great to hear @Noel28! Many thanks for the update.
Mitchell
Hello,
I am planning to purchase https://www.pinnacle.net.au/product/garage-pegboard/ to install on inside the garage , I have a stud finder, just wondering if i can use the same screws as above - https://www.bunnings.com.au/zenith-8g-x-20mm-galvanised-button-head-stitching-timber-screws-100-pack_p2420790
Does that system come with screws?
Cheers
Hi @JustinMcAbbe,
The Pinnacle pegboard is a different installation process from the standard pegboard, which Jacob advised on above. Provided you have studs at 450mm centres, you can screw timber screws directly into them for attachment. I'm presuming you have plasterboard covering your studs, so you'll need a screw longer than 20mm. The plasterboard itself is 10mm thick, and you need to leave 2mm of the screw exposed to slip the pegboard onto. I'd go with these 40mm versions instead. The kit does not come with fixings due to the different mounting substrates.
I've added a helpful video guide below.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Hi Mitchell
I went to purchase a Pinnacle Pegboard and got pretty confused, I want the largest possible size, and yes I have a standard MDF garage and not sure the size of the studs.
Can you advise if which one I can install inside a garage, some of them say they are for a Table install .

Oh, Do i have to purchase multiple of Pinnacle 900 x 450mm Matte Black Metal Pegboard - 900 x 450mm - https://www.bunnings.com.au/pinnacle-900-x-450mm-matte-black-metal-pegboard-900-x-450mm_p0038055
The Pinnacle 790 x 1800 x 20mm Metal Pegboard is designed to be installed over a bench with the Pinnacle Pegboard Bracket Set. To create the largest possible size, you would install multiple Pinnacle 900 x 450mm Matte Black Metal Pegboard - 900 x 450mm as per the video above. The other sizes are designed to be used in combination with shelving units.
Just saw your latest post. That's it.
Are these able to be drilled into garage wall?
Hello @JustinMcAbbe
For proper hook clearance, it will be necessary to mount it on timber battens, ensuring its level and secure into wall studs for heavy loads. Ensure that the battens are in line with the pegboard keyholes and are at the level you desire. To hang your Pinnacle pegboard straight, position it with keyholes facing the wall (narrow end up), use a spirit level to mark spots through the top/bottom keyholes onto the battens and use appropriate screws make sure to drill pilot holes, then screw it in leaving 2mm thread visible, and finally tighten.
Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to install 450x900mm Pegboard (some of the techniques used are applicable to your project)
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi Eric,
Sorry to keep asking stupid questions, but I am still not clear if these two products are made to be used as Garage Pegboards. I checked them in person and they seem to have the hanging key holes. Is it possible to confirm they can be used on a wall ? Following two
I was going to double check for you in regards to the key holes, but now that you have confirmed it, the odds are that it can be hung on the wall independently as seen on the mounting guide video. If there were no key holes, then there would be no provisions for the panel to be hung by itself.
Can it be used for garage pegboard? If it is installed properly with support, I would say yes, it can be used as a pegboard.
Though both designed with either inbuilt tabs for drop-in keyhole frame mounting or with a mounting kit, in short yes both can @JustinMcAbbe.
Like mounting any for of timber or metal panelling to a wall, its a matter of drilling suitably sized holes to cater for fixing screws in appropriate places to align with a combination of screws directly into studs and via wall anchors.
I helped a mate install a couple of panels on his garage brick wall using these anchors from Ramset. One in each corner and two top and bottom evenly spaced and all positioned to avoid mortar lines. He already had a stack of mixed peg hooks which had long arms which, when we first hung the panel up didn't have enough depth behind the panel to insert them. So, to @EricL good point of fitting a batten in-between was required. I used metal spacers (thick washers) that I had leftover from a TV mounting bracket kit which were perfect.
I have one of the Pinnacle workshop benches that came with the same pegboard panel. The bracket hooks are a lot shorter so, depth requirement behind is minimal. And if you use this type then you won't need any spacers. But they are more expensive. I have a combo of both types.Nailbag
I just measured the stud spacing where I want to install a pegboard, and none of the width options listed below will align with the available studs. I don’t want to mount it to drywall only. Are there any other installation options that would allow the pegboard to be secured to the existing studs?

1810H x 540W x 20D https://www.pinnacle.net.au/product/metal-pegboard-2/
What was the spacing between the studs?
If nothing lines up, then you can just attach some battens across the two studs and then screw the pegboard to those battens.
Let me know what you think.
Hi @JustinMcAbbe
If you don't want to use the batten idea @JacobZ then I would simply follow one of my original suggestions of drilling suitably sized holes to cater for fixing screws in appropriate places to align with your studs. Then if need be use these anchors from Ramset where required for additional fastening. Remembering to check and use spacers to accommodate the your selected peg type.Nailbag
