How to fix flaking paint?

My house is ten years old and there is flaking paint in the corners of my bedroom. What would be the cause of this and how do I fix this? Do I need to repaint the whole wall, and if so, would I need to remove/sand this paint first?

Flaking paint typically happens when the surface wasn’t properly primed, causing the paint to fail to bond correctly. Since this issue appears isolated to the corners of your bedroom, you likely don't need to repaint the whole wall. To fix it, start by scraping and sanding back the area to remove any loose or flaking paint and get down to the sound paint underneath. If the area is uneven, you might want to apply a very thin skim coat of plaster filler and then sand it smooth. Once that's done, prime the area and apply two top coats of paint. If you know the exact colour of your wall, you can use a sample pot for the touch-up, but keep in mind that after ten years, the colour may have aged or gotten soiled. It may be worth repainting the whole wall to ensure the repair blends seamlessly.
