How to repair a failed ceiling patch?

Hi,

There's a patch on the ceiling (not sure what it is hiding) that looks like it is about to fall out.  At its widest point (see arrow in the attached picture) it is about 130mm.

I was going to purchase some Builders Edge 100 x 100mm Plasterboard Wall Patch (I/N: 0730622), assuming this would be large enough to cover up what ever is under there but I've never attempted such a repair and would like to know if this is the right way to proceed and if there was anything else I need to consider or do.

I am also unsure if I need to purchase any plaster or does the above mentioned product comes supplied with plaster (or filler) or perhaps there is a better suitable product.

Hi @Dezzi,

Using the Builders Edge Plasterboard Wall Patch is a great option, especially for someone without much experience in ceiling repairs. This patch will allow you to cover the hole without needing to remove the entire damaged area. However, keep in mind that the patch itself doesn’t come with filler, so you will need to purchase that separately.

Once you've secured the patch in place, you will need to apply plaster to smooth out the edges. It's important to feather the plaster out onto the surrounding ceiling so that the patched area blends seamlessly with the rest of the surface. This will help prevent the patched area from sticking out or being noticeably different in texture. After the plaster has dried, you can sand it smooth to achieve a clean finish.

Make sure to follow the instructions on the patch and plaster products, and remember that patience is key with this type of repair. If done correctly, it should look as though the damage was never there.
