Repairing vs replacing bathroom tiles?

Question

Just moved into a new place and noticed a couple chips in the bathroom tiles. I've got concerns that it's effecting the waterproofing and might cause some issues.

Can this be fixed or should I replace the tiles completely? I worry

replacing might be pretty expensive

Hi @rondogz,

Thank you for your question about your cracked bathroom tiles.

Assuming the waterproof membrane beneath the tiles is still intact, then repairing the cracks is likely your best option. The alternative to repairing them is removing and replacing the damaged tiles, which has the potential to damage the waterproofing membrane in the process, which would cost a whole lot more.

For the small cavity around the tap, you can apply a bead of clear silicone to prevent water from entering the gap. Check out How To Silicone a Gap for some guidance.

For the hairline cracks in the tile, you can use this Rust-Oleum 13.3ml White Tub And Tile Touch Up Kit. It is a two-part epoxy filler that can be used to repair cracks in tiles.
