Inspired by a Bunnings magazine project, the custom tiled basin in this renovated laundry is large enough for bathing a dog.
The project
The old laundry wasn't functional and as it is located in a hallway it wasn't very nice to look at. We wanted to do something unique and useful for our small house. We were inspired by a previous Bunnings magazine where there was a tiled basin and wanted to do the same.
Steps
Step 1
Existing laundry. It had tiled floors and this single basin. One shelf for storage. The door was also on the wrong side which got in the way.

Step 2
We stripped the existing Gyprock and tiled flooring and built the basin. It is framed with Pine and cement sheeting over the top. The dimensions matched the tiles that we chose and allows for a washing machine one side and a dryer on the other. It is also large enough to fit a small/medium dog for a bath.

Step 3
Waterproofed and tiled the basin, installed new vinyl plank flooring and tap ware. The room was also painted during this time.

Step 4
Installed custom milled reclaimed Cypress Pine benchtops and open shelf. Also installed the upper cupboard. The timbers had gaps to allow for heat and moisture escape from running the machines. There is also an exhaust fan in the room. Below the basin is a two-shelf shoe rack. The shoe rack is completely removable for access to plumbing. The benchtop closest to the window is also hinged to allow for top loading washing machines.
