How to soundproof my spare room?

Hi everyone,

I need some help and advice please. My second bedroom shares a wall with the bathroom and every time someone turns the sink on or flushes the toilet it’s really noisy in the second bedroom. Short of ripping down the wall and insulating inside the wall, what else can I do? Are there any soundproofing panels or substances people would recommend that would stop the noise from the toilet and sink? Thank you in advance for any advice people can offer

This is a fairly common question that has been asked a few different times. I'd suggest you start by having a look at the following articles and discussions.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely you can completely erase the sound transfer without opening up the wall, but some things can certainly help.

One option is to use acoustic foam panels, which are easy to install over existing plasterboard and can significantly reduce noise. They work by dampening the vibrations coming through the wall.

Another solution is to install heavy curtains like you would see in a movie theatre.

Moving dense furniture like bookshelves or cabinets so they sit against this wall can also help reduce the noise transfer.

Additionally, adding door seals and draft stoppers can prevent sound from leaking through gaps around the door.

A combination of a few of these options should help.
