How to remove creeper weed from lawn?

Hi future helper,

we are plagued with some weed/crawler that is coming from our neighbours overgrown backyard. 
we have two dogs (cavaliers) and I just spent an hour hand plucking these under our recently first harvest from our olive tree.

One of our dogs has environmental allergies and worried this is affecting his allergy on top of it being an eyesore. 

Is there a way to rid ourselves of this menace (the weed, not the dog in case any confusion). 🤪

It looks like you’re dealing with an aggressive creeping weed, possibly Thunbergia fragrans or something similar, which often spreads from neighbouring overgrown yards. These weeds are not only an eyesore but can also trigger allergies in sensitive pets like your cavalier.

Since you’ve already started manually removing the weed, keep at it by loosening the soil and pulling up as much of the root system as possible to prevent regrowth.

To safely control what’s left without harming your dog, I’d recommend using a pet-safe spray like Yates Nature’s Way Organic Weed Spray or Slasher Organic Weedkiller, both available at Bunnings. These use natural ingredients and are safe once dry, though it’s best to keep your dog's away until the area has fully dried.

To stop the weed creeping back from your neighbour’s side, consider laying a weed mat or gravel barrier along the fence line, or attaching a weed control fabric directly to the base of the fence to block underground runners.
