Need layout help in converting laundry into bath and laundry

Hi,

We're planning a renovation and would like to convert our existing laundry into a combined bathroom and laundry space. This change is necessary as we're incorporating the current bathroom area into the kitchen to create more space there.

We're currently having trouble figuring out the best layout to make everything fit efficiently in the available space.

I've attached the existing layout along with CAD drawings that include measurements, as well as a proposed layout. Please note, the proposed layout is just a rough reference and not final.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could assist us in developing a practical layout for this room.

All measurements in the CAD drawings are in feet.

Before diving into layout suggestions, it’d be really helpful to know exactly what you'd like to include in this new combined bathroom and laundry space. Will you be installing both a washing machine and a dryer? Are you planning to keep a laundry tub or would you be happy to have a combined sink for both bathroom and laundry use? And will the bathroom need to include a toilet, shower and vanity, or are you prioritising certain features?

In terms of layout and keeping costs down, it’s generally best to leave items like the toilet or shower close to their current location if possible. Plumbing work can get expensive when you start moving waste pipes across the room, especially with floor penetrations. Even if you're restructuring the space with new walls, keeping the toilet or shower within a metre or so of their original position could save a lot on labour and materials.

Once we know what needs to go into the room and if you’re using a stacked or side-by-side laundry setup, we can start to explore practical layouts. You might also want to think about storage – a combined space can get tight quickly, so clever cabinetry and dual-purpose fixtures can really help. Feel free to upload a photo or two of the current room if you’re comfortable – that can give our community a better idea of what you’re working with.

I was wondering if it might be possible to add some storage in the laundry area?

Also, I noticed the toilet is positioned directly in front of the door. I’ve heard it’s generally not ideal for a toilet to face the door — is there any flexibility with the layout?

I was also thinking, would it be possible to do a Euro laundry setup, with the sink and vanity along the same wall, and the toilet next to them? Do you think that could work?

Like I mentioned, cost-wise it best to have the toilet as close to the existing pipework as possible @diva9. However, if you are on stumps and not a concrete slab relocating the pipework is an option. You could shift the cabinetry and washer, and dryer down to the corner and have the toilet between it and the shower.

Storage is entirely possible. You could certainly add it above the lower cabinets from the shower to the wall.

Regarding including a tub, it doesn't look like you'd have enough space for that, but you've cut the measurements off on the plan, so I can't tell the actual length of the wall. You could stack the washer and drier in the corner, and then you would have enough room for a laundry sink, vanity, and toilet.
