How to removing Pillar Static window film to reuse?

Hi, I put up a bunch of Pillar static window film and I’d like to take it with me when I move. Problem is that I threw out the backing plastic when it was put up. What can I do or use to cover the back of the film while it’s stored and transported? Thank you.

Hi @learningDIYer,

I don't know how successful you would be removing and reusing the film, but you could certainly try using something like cardboard or this Wrap & Move Kraft Paper Roll.

They should allow you to roll the film up for transport.

Hi, it’s static cling film. Not adhesive. It’s advertised by Bunnings and Pillar as easy to remove and reuse. It just hid in the fine print to reattach the backing plastic when removed. Perhaps someone familiar with the product can weigh in on a backing option as I’d assume they would be sold with a paper back if paper were a suitable solution.

You have an interesting question, I dont know what you could use that is normally floating around (as in wastage)

You could always buy a cheaper roll of the Pillar 0.9 x 2m Embossed Frost Adhesive Window Film and use that as the backing for your transportation. Seems odd but a cardboard tube will still cost $$ and you would still end up with the lost roll of the carcboiard being exposed. Clingwrap I think would be problematic. So my vote would be to buy the one I mentioned above.

Unfortunately the photo I included was the smallest of the ones I need to do. I actually have 6 very large windows and the small one pictured. It would be a huge amount of even more film to buy and I really can’t afford that. I can buy something but not quite that much. I’m wondering if a type of fabric or tarp would be an option?

I agree cling wrap would be likely problematic.

My second suggestion was going to be using some coreflute...:o maybe go for a stroll tonight .... O:) lots of intersections about that have a few no longer required.... But shhh I didnt tell you 🙂

But really as i was thinking about it, you could just keep using that first roll, you roll up the first piece, then use that same roll to continue rolling the other films over the top. Maybe spray soapy water on it as you roll so they seperate easier in the new place?

😆 I think the corflute idea could work because I can stack those easy and even a little paper tape to hold them on won’t be a problem.
Unfortunately I may not have a new place in time so I’ll be planning/packing for storage just in case, so I want to keep them dry if possible to avoid mould

Hi @learningDIYer,

Since they are the static cling versions and not adhesive, I would have thought you could potentially roll them up on themselves. It might be worth doing a test section on a smaller one to see if it can be unrolled easily again.
