How to re-render the top of a wall?

Hi everyone,

I would like to rerender the top of an internal garage wall that has suffered some moisture damage.

I have a small tub of the original render that was used more than 5 years ago to re-render this wall.

Just wondering how I go about colour matching this render, and how to best apply it?

Hi @johnk,

You would need to colour match using oxides and apply with a render texture roller. Alternatively, if the render is still in place, you could paint it grey to cover the staining. However, you'd likely need to colour match using the colour cards in-store.

What product should I use for the Render?

Can a local store help with the colour matching?

It looks a bit light in the image, but could the render you already have be colour-matched @johnk? It might be worth applying some to a board, waiting for it to dry and then holding it against the wall to check. If you can use it, that would be best, as colour matching with oxides needs to be done by eye and is not a service we provide.

If the render on the wall appears to be intact, you just might need to clean the surface with a bristle brush and just use ordinary paint to go over the surface. Adding more render to the surface might cause it to become proud or uneven. A possible alternative would be to use Dulux 4L Fine Texture Exterior Paint - 4L. But just in case you were wondering about what render to use, I suggest looking at the Dunlop 20kg Multipurpose Acrylic Render. You can add the oxide to it to get the colour you are after.
