How to install cabinet rail in brick with a gap?

Hello,

I am getting ready to install my kitchen and wanted to sense check my plan for attaching an ikea suspension rail.

Question 1

i cannot make my wall flush because of a small water pipe that isn’t chased deeply enough into the wall. I planned to use window shims behind each attachment point so the rail is level but there will be a 5mm gap between the brick wall and the rail. Is that the best approach?

Question 2

was planning to then use masonry wall anchors (Ramset 6x 75mm zinc ankascrew anchors) in pre drilled 8mm holes.

Will this work? Or is there a better way to do it?

This is likely something best confirmed with the manufacturer of the suspension rail system to ensure your proposed installation method complies with their specifications. That said, your plan sounds quite practical for working around the obstruction — using window shims to maintain a level rail with a consistent 5mm gap is a reasonable approach, provided the load can still be properly transferred to the wall through the anchor points.

It would really help if you could post a photo of the wall and the area where the pipe sits, along with a clear shot of the back of the rail to see how it’s designed to fix to the wall. Can you also let us know whether the rail is load-bearing (for example, supporting overhead cabinets), or if it just provides alignment and support? If the rail is carrying any significant weight, it’s important the fixings are secure and that the system is designed to span a gap like the one you’ve described.
