How to stop crows destroying the lawn?

I'm not sure why these crows have started attacking both the front and back of my garden. It could be that the soil is soft and easy for them to dig through.

At first, I thought it was just a temporary issue and decided to leave them alone, but unfortunately, they’re still around.

I even tried spraying vinegar in the spots they frequent, but that didn’t help either.

On the bright side, maybe they’re helping by getting rid of harmful worms—but now I’m left wondering how to repair the damage they've done to the lawn.

Crows are naturally curious and highly intelligent birds, often attracted to freshly turned soil because it’s an excellent hunting ground for insects, worms, and grubs. If your lawn has recently been aerated, top-dressed, or disturbed in any way, this might explain their sudden interest. While it's true that they could be helping by removing pests like lawn grubs, their digging can be frustrating, especially when it leads to unsightly patches. 

To repair the damage, you’ll need to gently press the loose clumps of grass back into place and top up any bare spots with a quality lawn repair mix, like the Scotts Lawn Builder 3.6L Patch Magic, which combines seed, fertilizer, and mulch for quick recovery. It’s also worth considering a soil wetting agent like Richgro Ezi-Wet, which can help compact the soil slightly, making it less appealing for the birds to dig through. In the long run, keeping your lawn healthy and regularly fertilized can reduce the grub population naturally, potentially discouraging the crows from visiting as often.

To gently discourage the crows without causing them harm, you can try a few simple tactics to make your garden less inviting. Since they’re highly intelligent and quickly learn to avoid unpleasant or confusing situations, a bit of variety in your approach can be particularly effective.

One option is to set up reflective objects like old CDs, aluminium foil strips, or Jack 19mm x 30m Holographic Pest Control Tape around the affected areas. The light flashes and movement can make the space seem less welcoming. Alternatively, a few solar-powered motion-activated devices, like the Sureguard Scarecrow Motion Activated Ultrasonic Animal Repellent, emit sudden light or sound to startle them without causing any harm. If you have space, a few garden stakes topped with small, shiny wind spinners or pinwheels can achieve a similar effect.
