How to add brick edge along Colorbond fence?

Hi there,

i want to put an edging along my colourbond fence to make whipper snipping easier and quieter but i honestly have no idea what i’m doing or where to start

i have considered using plastic garddn edging and also using bricks and i’m leaning more towards the brick idea

what things would i need to consider to go about doing this ?
ive attached photos of the fence in question

I propose digging a channel where the bricks can be laid in. But before putting the bricks in, I suggest levelling the channel adding sand and tamping the surface. This will provide a nice even surface for the bricks to be lined up in. Once you've placed the bricks in the ground make sure they are tight against each other so that there will be minimal movement.

I thought I'd also point you to this handy step-by-step article: How to lay paving for a path. It's going to be a very similar preparation of the area and laying of the bricks. Instead, though, you will be laying a single course along the fence line.

Additionally. If i wanted to paint the bricks in various alternating colours what would be the cheapest way of going about this

The cheapest way to paint the bricks in alternating colours would be to pick up two different tins of exterior-grade paint and apply it by hand using a paintbrush or small roller. It’s budget-friendly and gives you control over the colour placement. However, if you're working with a large number of bricks, you might find it quicker and easier to set up a spray area—just lay down a tarp or drop sheet to protect the ground—and use a low-cost spray gun to apply the paint. It’ll save time and give a nice even finish, especially if you’re doing multiple coats.
