How to install automatic driveway gates?

Looking for some advice for installing a driveway gate with automatic opening. Not sure if I should opt for a sliding or two-swinging gate configuration, any advice would be appreciated.

the measurements are 3220mm wide, 1440mm tall on one side, 1340mm on the other side.

The first thing to consider is whether you have the full 3220mm of clearance space available on the right-hand side of the driveway opening. A sliding gate needs at least that much room to retract completely out of the way. If you don’t have that space available, then a sliding gate likely won’t be a viable option.

Assuming you don’t have enough room for a sliding gate, a double swing gate would be the next best option. Just keep in mind that swing gates need to open inwards toward the property, and the ground inside the gate must be level and clear of obstructions so the gates don’t scrape when opening. If the surface inside the gate slopes upwards, that could limit how far the gates can open without modifying the ground.

If you have clearance on one side and prefer the simpler automation of a sliding gate, they’re often easier to operate in tight spaces compared to swing gates, especially if there’s not much room for the gates to swing inwards.

Also worth noting—because of the drain located in the centre of the gated area, you're likely to end up with a fairly large gap underneath the middle section once either a sliding or double swing gate is installed. This is especially true if you go with swing gates, as they need ground clearance to open freely without scraping. It's something to keep in mind, as the gap might affect privacy, security, or even the look of the gate depending on your preferences.
