DIY garden edging using timber poles

The young nature strip tree out front needs the timber edging replaced.

I made a note to get a roll from Bunnings but a few days later while looking for something else behind the chook run I came across timber poles - both round and half round. Hmm... I could use the half rounds to make my own edging.

Materials

Half round timber poles.

Coat hanger wire.

Bag of mulch.

Tools

Ozito 12" mitre saw.

Ozito NSG-5000 brad nailer & apler.

To lazy to change ammo I bought two of these in 2016 (5 Stars)

Arrow 25mm narrow crown staples

Craftright bolt cutters.

Steps

Step 1

  
I had a leftover of the original edging.

  

Setup a stop block and start chopping.

With that done we need to join them with two rows of coat hanger wire.

Step 2

  

Setting up a production line.

 

  

That's the length we need so I will need to make another shorter one.

Step 3

    

Painting is done.

Step 4

  

Remove everything.

  

Join the two sections, add wood bark and we are done.

Council contractors didn't eyeball those sake locations all that well

Thanks so much for sharing this DIY project @AlanM52. It’s a brilliant reuse of materials, and the end result looks fantastic. That natural timber look really suits the nature strip and blends in beautifully with the setting.

Using the half-round poles with coat hanger wire was clever, and the production-line approach with your mitre saw and stapler clearly worked a treat. Great job on the neat join and mulch finish too—it looks tidy and professionally done.

Also, hats off for giving those old poles a new lease on life rather than letting them go to waste.
