A dark kitchen with dated cream cabinetry and brown tiles was brightened and freshened on a budget using Dulux Renovation Range paint.
The project
My kitchen needed some attention to make me want to feel like cooking in it. It's the hub of the home and it really made me feel sad and down. I saw a video of someone using paint to update their kitchen and thought to myself, I can do that! I did some research on paints and products and the next day went to Bunnings to purchase what I needed to get started. I wanted to make it brighter and give it a modern refresh.
Steps
Step 1
This is the before photo of the kitchen. It had cream cupboards, cream and brown picture tiles, maroon kickboards and a cream fleck benchtop.
Step 2
First step was taking all the cupboard and drawer fronts off. I then used sugar soap and cleaned these all once laid out on the floor. I also cleaned the tiles and benchtop thoroughly with sugar soap three times over and taped up all the areas using the Scotch Blue tape.
Step 3
I painted the tiles first with a roller and then painted the benchtop. I lightly sanded the tiles and benchtop first to rough the surface up to ensure the paint had the best ability to stick. I was already so happy with how it was looking.
Step 4
I changed the tap to a black mixer.
Step 5
I painted all the cupboards when on the ground in three coats of the Dulux Renovation range cabinet doors paint. Then I left them for seven days to cure. The benchtop was also left to cure for seven days. Once cured, I put all the cupboards and drawer fronts back on with their new handles.
Step 6
I am absolutely over the moon with the finished result.
