Need ideas for cubby house base

Hi Bunnings expert,

I am new to DIY and doesn’t have much experience.

Recently bought cubby house from Bunnings but unsure how and where to start. Does it need any base separate before I install if so what base needed? If not can I start fitting how it going to fix with soil?

I have attached imaginary picture on backyard how will look like. We already have pave stones in backyard. Thinking to remove on area were planning to place cubby house.

I would really appreciate your ideas.

I suggest having a look at this discussion - Solved: Cubby house base ideas? by @SxcMnx. My teammate has drawn up a sample timber base which is perfect for a cubby house. The best part is that you can anchor the cubby house to the timber base for safety. For even more safety I suggest using the Swing Slide Climb 1 x 1m x 20mm Shock Pad Rubber Paver around the cubbyhouse to cover the pavers.

Sorry it took a while to get back to you. Thank you for your updates.

So after removing stones, (there will be weedmat) - then can I apply rubber paver on top of weedmat and anchor cubby house? or should I apply timber base first on weedmat and then apply rubber paver and then anchor cubby house?

Thanks for the update and for sharing more about your project — it’s great to hear you're moving ahead with your cubby house plans. When it comes to installation, it's important to follow the directions provided with your cubby house, as different models have different requirements. Some are designed to be pinned or anchored down, while others are freestanding and simply need a stable, level base, particularly larger cubby houses that aren't easily tipped over.

In terms of preparing the site, if you’re removing the existing pebbles and exposing the weed mat underneath, that’s perfectly fine. You can lay the rubber pavers directly on top of the weed mat, and they will provide a soft and safe surface for children to play on. As for securing the cubby house, refer to the instructions that came with your kit — it may not require anchoring at all, or it might need to be fixed to a timber base or directly to the ground. If you’re unsure, feel free to share the brand and model of the cubby house or any details from the manual, and we can help you work out the best way to set it up securely.

Hello @movaliagaurav

Thank you for identifying which cubbyhouse you'll be putting together. According to the assembly instructions nothing must be placed under the cubby house. It would be safe to conclude that the area you'll be placing the cubbyhouse in must be totally flat and levelled. The rubber pavers must be placed around the cubby house structure where the children will be playing in all directions for two meters. The instructions also mention to use weights such as sandbags or steel pins to anchor the structure to prevent it from being carried away by strong winds.

Please have a good look at the assembly instructions and if there is anything you would like to clarify, please let us know.
