How to connect new laundry sink?

hi all

 installing a new sink and plumbing underneath a new benchtop in the laundry. 

does this look ok? 

can I just get a straight pipe to connect the sink to the trap?

(260mm between bottom of sink pipe and top of trap)

does the trap need to be higher?

(im getting a clip to secure the washing machine outlet)

Typically, the trap would connect directly beneath the sink waste outlet rather than being positioned that far down. However, I can see why you've installed it there, since your floor waste pipe is quite off-centre. It’s potentially workable in that position, but you’d need to extend a vertical pipe upwards from the trap. To do that, you’d glue a length of pipe into a threaded fitting that matches the trap’s compression nut, allowing it to be screwed on securely. That pipe would then rise to meet the underside of the sink, where you'd need a suitable coupling to connect it to the threaded waste outlet from the sink.

When you visit your local store, be sure to measure the diameter of the sink waste’s threaded section — that will help you find the correct connector or adapter. That said, you might actually find it easier to fit the trap directly beneath the sink and then use elbows or other fittings to reroute the waste pipe over to the off-centre floor outlet.

Just a friendly reminder — this type of drainage connection is considered regulated plumbing work, so it must be carried out by a licensed plumber. Always worth having the setup ready for them to work with efficiently, though!
