How to patch and plaster over brick?

I scraped off some water damaged render and plaster from a wall in our kitchen/dining and was hoping to patch it with some Dunlop acrylic render I bought, but as I was brushing away loose material I realised a small portion of brickwork is now showing (about 10cm×5cm as per the photos). Do I need to patch it with something more substantial or more appropriate instead or first? Whole area is about 90cm×70cm and doesn't need to be professionally finished as a cupboard will be going over it- I mostly wanted to seal it and finish it before putting the cupboard in...

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

As long as all of the loose material has been removed, then there shouldn't be any issue using your Dunlop Acrylic Render for this repair regardless of the brick poking through. Just make sure you are only applying it in layers that correspond with the recommendations on the packaging. If you are using the render I have linked to, this would be 10mm thick.

The exposed brick appears to be quite shallow. So, I agree with @JacobZ first comment that as long as you follow the preparation instructions for the render, you should be able to go over the entire surface. Use a good painters tape around the powerpoint and wall skirt and arcs.

The first question here is have you fixed the cause of the water damage? If yes then there is no need to render this at all if it will be a fixed cupboard. If no then that is what you should be concentrating on.

Thanks so much everyone for the advice- I hadn't replied yet as was waiting on a plumber's advice and a pressure test to ensure there was no water damage coming from inside the walls or elsewhere. The cause of the water damage is still a bit of a mystery (we moved in a few months ago and have been finding all the jobs that previous owners painted over/didnt properly address for sale), but nothing's come out of the walls since scraping away, there's no evidence of damp, pressure test came back with no leaks, and we have confidence that it's not an ongoing issue. I'll give the dunlop acrylic a go- unfortunately the cabinet is going to leave some of the current scrape-away peeking out, so patch, sand and paint is probably the go for now. Will let you know how it goes!
