How to repair part of a door jamb?

Can I use builders bog to repair this piece of timber on my door jamb? The striker plate for the door was too far forward and so I attempted to chisel out some timber to get the striker plate in the right spot, the timber cracked so I filled it with glue. After drying and me attempting to put the plate back on the timber split and fell off completely. This timber is not a proper door jamb piece and is part of a load bearing piece of timber and so I cannot replace the whole length of timber. The door cannot be made any smaller as it is an exterior door with glass. If not bog, what's the best way to repair the gap and put the striker plate back on?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fabulous to have you with us.

You could, as @AlanM52 has said, route or cut out a section of the timber with a multitool, cut a piece of timber to fit the rebate you have cut out, then glue and fix it in place with trim nails or screws. You could then cut the rebate for the striker plate in the new timber, fill the small gaps between the old and new timber with Builder's Bog and then paint everything.

Alternatively, Builder's Bog could be used alone; however, being a corner, it may get knocked and damaged more easily than timber would.

To fix the frame with Builder's Bog, start by removing any loose or splintered timber and giving the timber a light sand. You should then cover the striker plate with painter's tape, then install it as you would normally. When the striker plate is installed, with the painter's tape covering its surface, mix up and apply the Builder's Bog to fix up the frame. Allow the bog to dry, then sand and paint it. Once painted, remove the painter's tape to reveal a clean and well-fitting striker plate.
