Add a teeny tiny ensuite or redo current laundry and bathroom?

I've seen some of your amazing sketches for some reno ideas. I'm looking for some ideas.

The aim is to add a toilet, at the minimum, but preferably create a small shower/toilet - permit noted.

The dimensions of bath/laundry on the photos are not so correct.

Laundry is 1.52m x 2.4m. Cabinet is 50cm deep

Bathroom is 2.17m x 2.4m

Bedroom is correct. Wardrobe is 60cm deep, it has a small box for ducted heating on the side next to the door.

I'm looking at some options and would love to hear your thoughts.

Option 1: close off the door going to the back and turn laundry to a small bathroom with toilet. Then convert the current bathroom to add an European style laundry.

Options 2: add an ensuite to one side of bedroom (where the ac is). This options leave mean wondering if a 3.1m x 2.6m bedroom can fit a standard queen. The queen bed has to sit against the wall with leg facing window. And leave enough space to walk into the ensuite (pocket door in the middle because toilet and shower on each side of the walls).

With option 2, I even thought of doing a corner ensuite by taking half of the wardrobe. The length from back of wardrobe to window is 1.75m.

Would love any comments and suggestions.

I just can't see there being enough room left for a decent bedroom after squishing an ensuite into that bedroom. Does the 4.2 metre length in the bedroom include the depth of the robe?

It would be a tight squeeze, but I think option 1 is the better of the two, mainly because you wouldn't need to build a new wall or significantly alter the structure of the rooms. There is also the fact that there will already be a water supply running to that room, so the need for plumbing alterations would be less than if you added an ensuite.

Personally I wouldn't delete the laundry outside door as that would be a major negative on the property come time to sell. I also wouldn't shrink an already smallish bathroom down, as the cost would outweigh the small benefit. I would look at possibly putting the toilet left of the laundry door where the closet is.

Mmmm I cant really see a space that you could jig around to make enough space for an ensuite.

I was looking at the built in wardrobe and thinking that space plus some of the bathroom but really that would require a major rejig of the bathroom area plus changing the hallway door to a cavity door.

As to closing off the rear door to the laundry. If its the only exit from the rear of the house then its a legal requirement to have.

The 4.2m does not include wardrobe. Wardrobe is about 60cm, so I have a space around 1.7m from end of wardrobe to the window edge.

I also looked into the measurement for adding a toilet only to laundry. Because how the two doors are placed, adding a toilet right where the closet is and keep the bench where the WM is will leave little space of clearance. It may end up closing the laundry door and move everything on to the closet side for better flow.

It would be toilet, washing machine and sink. The laundry door is facing front entry so having some covering of the toilet is great too.

That's why I thought of converting it to shower, as the door will be closed regardless.

We have another door going to the back from our dining.

The other bedroom is 3m including wardrobe (I hate how misleading it is). Having an ensuite there will make the room smaller. We are considering moving the wardrobe to behind the door, so we can fit a queen bed there.

I personally think that the alterations to essentially gain another toilet is sacrificing so much more that I would consider being content with the current layout. Anything you do will compromise space elsewhere. In other words. gain here, loose there. The available space simply doesn't allow for compromise unless you're prepared to sacrifice.

Our washer is 600m, thinking of a large bowl for vanity that can be an occasional washing sink.

Hi @suchu,

Could you incorporate a Caroma Profile 5 Deluxe P Trap Toilet Suite, which would allow you to remove a vanity or basin?

It would still be tight, but it could help reduce the space required to cover all bases.

Just a thought.
