What selective weed killer for grass?

Hi l have a large patch of lavender plants but grass keeps growing in between them crowding them out and l have to constantly pull up the grass as the grass grows fast, is there some sort of weed killer l can spray that will kill the grass but not kill the lavender , or can you think of any other solution

Unfortunately, no, there is no selective herbicide that I am aware of that would kill grass without killing your lavender as well.

You can make the job of manual removal easier on your body with a stand-up weeder or a kneeling pad.

Once the grass has been removed, adding a layer of mulch around 100mm thick will help to suppress the grass. It will not be a perfect solution, but it will certainly help.

@JacobZ is correct - there isn't a selective grass herbicide that will control the grass without damaging your lavender plants. Selective herbicides actualy work the other way - they eradicate broadleaf weeds without damaging lawn grasses A weedkiller that will kill grasses without damaging other plants is the horticulturist's "holy grail"!

The trick here is not the herbicide - but how you apply it. I would be recommend a couple of different application methods for you to choose from here. Both are glyphosate-based herbicides

1) Weed wand: Simple and easy to use. Yates Zero Weeding Herbicide Applicator Brush - Bunnings Australia

2) Gel applicator: Yates 200ml Zero Rapid Gel 1 Hour Action Weed Killer - Bunnings Australia

3) Sprayer Hood: if you need to do a lot of spraying and need to use a sprayer - get a 'hood' to direct your spraying like this one: Nylex Weedkiller Fan Garden Sprayer - Bunnings Australia. May vary depending on the type of sprayer you have.

The above allow very accurate application with minimal risk to non-target plants.
