How to repaint flaking bathroom walls?

Hey there, 

i’m sick and tired of seeing the paint flaking and cracking in my bathroom and i want to do something about it. Unfortunately paying for a painter is a bit out of my reach and my knowledge and history of painting extends to painting the toilet door pink for my daughter 

i have attached some photos to shoq the extent of the damage the walls have and would like to know what i need to do to get it back to looking schmicko 🙂

Totally understandable that you're sick of seeing flaking and cracked paint in your bathroom. The good news is, with a bit of prep and the right products, you can tackle this yourself and get things looking schmicko again without needing to bring in a pro!

First, you’ll need to scrape off all the loose, flaking paint using a paint scraper. Don’t worry about it being perfect, just focus on removing everything that’s peeling or cracked. 

Once that’s done, give the area a good sand with a sanding sponge to smooth out any edges and roughen the surface, which helps new paint stick better. Follow this up with a wipe down using sugar soap to remove dust, grime, or any residue.

Next, apply a quality stain-blocking primer like Zinsser Bulls Eye Primer Undercoat Sealer And Stain Blocker or Zinsser B-I-N Primer Sealer Stain Blocker. These primers are excellent for sealing surfaces in high-moisture environments and will help prevent future peeling. 

Once your primer is dry, use a bathroom-grade paint, such as this Dulux Wash&Wear +PLUS Kitchen & Bathroom. This paint stands up better to humidity and is easier to clean than standard paints.

You've got this, with a bit of elbow grease and the right prep, your bathroom will be looking fresh and fabulous in no time.
