How to drill into concrete and brick?

Hi
I am installing the outdoor handrail for my house. It requires to drill 8 deep holes into my concrete+brick entryway and stair. I tried to use the hammer mode on the Ryobi One+ 18V drill with a mansory drill bit, but it took forever to do. What drill do you recommend in this case to complete the task faster?

Hi @diy_dude,

For drilling into concrete and masonry, you'll want to use a rotary hammer drill.

They use a pneumatic hammering mechanism that delivers powerful, piston-driven blows directly to the drill bit, independent of rotation. This produces much higher impact energy, making it significantly more effective and efficient when drilling into tough masonry like reinforced concrete.

I do lots of DIY and never use any of my cordless drills that have the hammer mode thing.

When drilling rather than continuous pressure I use a plunge action which not only clears the hole but more importantly helps to keep the drill bit at a lower temperature.

Just to add some backing to @AlanM52's comment, I also own this Ozito 710W Hammer Drill. It is perfectly suited to this work and fantastic for the price.

Definitely worth considering.
