I love growing different types of Succulents. There are so many varieties, sizes, colours and textures. They are so versatile and easy to grow and care for. I would love to share a Succulent Tower I created with my Succulents from my garden. This is very easy, great for beginner Gardeners who want to be creative. Once you start creating, it gets very addictive and heaps of fun !!!!!
Materials
A mixture of Succulent cuttings and plants from my garden. You can also purchase Succulents from your local Bunnings Store.
Scotts Osmocote Cacti and Succulent Potting Mix
Brunnings Perlite
Scotts Osmocote Cacti and Succulent Slow Release Fertiliser
3 x Terracotta Pots to plant up the tower
32cm Super Bloomer
27cm Super Bloomer
21cm Cylinder Bowl
2 x Terracotta Squat Pots 15cm
These are hidden inside to create the layers.
I also used a broken terracotta pot to make a feature on top of the tower. You don’t have to do this, you can make it completely just plants only on top of.
A bucket to mix the potting media
Gloves to protect your hands.
A Mask when mixing the Perlite with the Potting Mix.
Trestle Table to use as a Potting Table.
A heavy duty Pot Trolley, mine is 29cm.

Steps
Step 1

When planting Succulents I like to add Perlite to the Cacti Succulent Mix to lighten it up and create better drainage. I used for this Tower, 1/2 bag of potting mix and roughly about 4- 5 cups of Perlite. Along with that I added roughly 2 tablespoons of the slow release fertiliser. Yes there is slow release fertiliser in the soil but I like to add extra when planting.
I gave the soil a good mix.
When you mix Pertlite into potting mix, it’s quite dusty so make sure you wear a mask. I also wet the bag inside when I open it up and this stops the dust.
As always, protect your hands and wear gloves, this is really important especially if you’re adding broken terracotta as a feature.
Step 2

Use three different size pots, basically small, medium, large.
Use 2 squat pots to add layers.
I use a Pot Trolley so it’s so much easier to spin the tower around as I am planting.
Step 3

Have a mixture of different Succulent cuttings and also plants ready, the choice is endless, you can mix them up or use one variety. Whatever you choose is going to be fantastic.
Step 4

Start with the largest bowl first, this is the first tier and add a squat pot turned upside down in the centre of the pot.
Add the soil, level with the squat pot.
Step 5

Adding the medium pot with squat pot in the centre, this is the second tier. Fill with soil.
Step 6

Adding the third and final tier, I used a terracotta bowl. Fill with soil.
Step 7

Top up the layers as needed.
Step 8

On the top tier I had a broken terracotta pot I wanted to use as a feature, you certainly don’t have to do this. You can add whatever you want.
Step 9

Now the fun begins with planting the cuttings / plants around each layer. There’s no right or wrong way, create it how you want it.
Step 10

And there you have it !!!! I had heaps of fun creating this. Working in your Garden is so rewarding and great for your head space. It’s a great way to switch off. I hope you enjoy this and that it inspires you to create something beautiful in your garden.
