How to repaint shower base border?

First time renovator here. Wanting to repaint the shower base edges but unsure what colour / type of paint. The base of the floor is tiling, however the border area of the base has paint. As you can see the old paint has already chipped away, and I’ve used filler to fill in the cracks that were previously there. How’s the best and easiest way to make this neat and nice?!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your shower base.

Can you please tell us what material is your border base made of? If it is a tiled surface or a porcelain steel surface, I propose looking at the Rust-Oleum 946ml White Gloss Tub And Tile Refinishing Kit or the White Knight 1L White Satin Renew Tile And Laminate Paint. However, if it is an acrylic material neither of these products are applicable. Acrylic surfaces are flexible and the paint products that I have mentioned must be used on stable non-flexible surfaces.

If it is an acrylic surface, I suggest engaging the services of a resurfacing specialist (specifically someone who has experience with acrylic shower bases). It requires a special epoxy paint to go on to the acrylic surface as ordinary paint will not bind onto the surface and will eventually peel off.

I'm not super familiar with figuring out the types of materials, however I'm leaning to think its either concrete or brick as it is very solid. Would those paint products you linked still work in the case that it is? I have attached another photo for reference in case it helps (also around the drain you can see the base material).

Also would it be recommended to paint strip first prior to painting?

It's really tough to say. We really need to identify what it is to offer a solid recommendation.

Is it possible to get an up-close photo of an area where the paint has been removed and there is no filler?

Does it look porous like concrete?

If it is concrete, then we're in a little bit of a grey area because there are concrete paints, but they are not designed for use in wet areas like your shower, and I doubt any of the suppliers would recommend using their product in this situation.

The Rust-Oleum White Gloss Tub And Tile Refinishing Kit is more suited to the wet environment, but it is not recommended for use on concrete.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of a paint that fits all the circumstances of your space. You could try either a concrete paint or the tub and tile kit, but I am not sure how long they would last.

Personally, I would consider scraping off the paint and tiling over it. This is a much more common solution for showers that would add your touch to the space and cover up the unsightly areas beneath.
