A laundry and scullery transformation with coffee station using Kaboodle cabinets, benchtops and new flooring.
The project
My favourite room in the house (my favourite room is anywhere the coffee machine is). A massive job but the end was rewarding.
Steps
Step 1
The space beyond the pink beam in the picture was originally a toilet. The pink beam shows where the wall was. The right wall in that space was a door which was accessed from the hallway. With the bathroom next door, having the only toilet seperate to that didn’t make sense, so the wall was removed and the toilet relocated. The door was then walled off, and this would eventually open up great bench space.
We had a registered plumber remove the old sink and relocate the tap outlets to lower in the wall, so we could have the new faucet installed and hot/cold taps hidden in the cabinet. I cut out a door way in the wall with a gib knife and used framing from another door I removed. Now it looks like it was always there.
Step 2
The broom is leaning on what used to be double cupboard doors to the hallway, which narrowed the space in the hallway and restricted free passage. I had to replace the wall to the old toilet with floor to ceiling beams for load bearing support - after talks with a qualified builder. Luckily this didn’t impede on the open plan of the room.
Step 3
We bought flat pack Kaboodle cabinets from Bunnings which we were able to situate right around the room, opening up useful work space all round.
Step 4
We installed two Kaboodle 2.4m bench tops, cutting a hole and installing a new sink. Tiling the window wall and coffee machine area tied it all in. We double-glazed the whole house, some windows we were able to remove the middle frame, which opened up the room to the backyard and great natural light. Lastly, MDF, then floor planks. We also had electrical ports and down lights installed by a registered electrician.
