How to sand and polish timber floor?

Hi bunning

I would like to revive our floor by sanding and polishing. The first 2 pics show it is quite damaging. The 2nd two pic show it is quite good condition. Iam not sure what grit should we use for sanding? What are best practices to make the floor look like new?  Thanks
