We have purchased a new top loader washing machine and the "P" trap barbs are too small.
Do Bunnings stock the correct "P" trap?

We stock a few P traps with barbs, such as the Caroma 50mm P Trap and Holman 50mm S&P Trap Combo Set, although I wonder if there is a better option.
It may be easier to just replace the hose or adapt it in a way to suit the trap.
Could you possibly upload some photos of your P-trap and the outlet hose you are looking to connect to it? Some measurements of the diameter of the hose and the barb would also help.

We went ahead with one of the combo traps but now I see it in place I’m nervous. Won’t it drain back out via the lower port which is below the weir?
Do we just hook the hoses up higher on something so it’s not the low point?

You’ll generally find in the appliance installation instructions that the waste hose is required to be routed up high before connecting to the sink trap. From your photo, it appears the appliance hoses may sit below the water level within the trap, which could potentially cause drainage issues.
As plumbing work must be completed in accordance with local regulations, we’d recommend checking the appliance manufacturer’s installation requirements and consulting a licensed plumber if you have any concerns about the setup or compliance.
