How to repair pool pebblecrete coping?

Hi there, We are currently building a deck that will butt up to the edge of our pool, which has pebblecrete coping. Some parts of the edge have broken away (see red box) and other parts have stayed intact (see blue). I'm looking for a way to make the edge as uniform as possible so that the deckboards can follow a straight edge and not come in and out. It doesn't have to be a perfect job as we will likely paint over the pebblecrete at a later date. Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your pebblecrete.

I'm sorry but the store currently does not have any dedicated pebblecrete surface repair products. If you still have the loose pieces of pebblecrete I recommend using Earl's 1kg Concremate Expanding Cement to reattach the broken pieces. I also suggest having a quick look at this discussion - Solved: How to repair pebblecrete steps? by @kiji. Would it be possible for you to post a photo of the coping a little further away so that we can see the how its located around the pool. We'll then be able to make recommendations on possible repair options.

I have repaired a pebblecrete patio before but gluing back the pieces that have come away, including the bits that had lifted. I just had to support the broken segments with a jig while the edge dried.

When you say you want a uniform edge, I was thinking of suggestion a straight cut with a concrete saw. Tho from your photo its a bit hard to see if you have spave to use a saw? It would be the easiest way to get a uniform straight edge.

What about forming the outer right side with something like a plastic sheet and then fill with a hand-mix of mortar and fine river pebbles?

Here is a picture that shows one edge that needs "filling in". There are 2 others that are similar. Cutting the rest of the edge to match this would mean cutting around 10m of pool coping so I'm not that keen on that idea. I think mortar might work. Would this essentially be like rendering the side of the pool edge to be in line with the rest?

Hi @jimmyd,

@Nailbag's method seems like the best option to me, although it would be tough to build a form in those tight spaces.

You could try using a mortar mix with fine river pebbles, then applying it with a trowel and forming it to the shape of the edge with a Concrete Edger.

With a bit of practice, I reckon you could get a relatively sharp edge that wouldn't look too out of place.

Yeah that would be a pain cutting 10m, I like @Nailbag 's suggestion then 🙂 It would give a better finish and as @JacobZ suggests some practice pieces might be an idea 🙂
