How to fix tap that keeps coming off?

Hello,

A while ago I had the tap replaced by a plumber in my kitchen after I wasn’t getting any hot water (tap turned but nothing came out), the plumber was there to fix something else so just used the parts he had on hand, now when I turn the water on after a while the handle/nut on top fall off, exposing the spring underneath. I ended up just taking the spring out so it stopped happening as much but would like to fix it properly. I assume something has fallen off at some point just unsure what, how do I fix this/what do I need so this stops happening? Thank you!

Do you know what the plumber did to fix the issue in the first place? Any details you could provide on this may help to shed some light.

My first thought was to ask whether the tap functions without the spring?

I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of this spring is, and I question whether it is really necessary, as generally a tap handle just attaches to the spindle and is tightened up with a locking nut like the one in your hand.

If it is functioning as it should without the spring, then to me, that seems to be the fix.

I have replaced washers that with the taps base that has a spring, think its mean to keep the base pushed against the tiles.

That locking nut is what I am thinking of as well, maybe a wind around with some plumbers tape will help secure it? It may not be the exact same model locking nut so the thread is a little different?

there is a mismatch in the parts of your tap. The Spring is designed to be paired with a tap knob as per the picture below. The knob has a cap with the same type of locking nut as your tap handle as @Dave-1 suggested. The larger round knob handle once secured with the locking nut enables the spring to maintain pressure on the bell shaped wall cover against the tiles. The spring only works with that larger tap knob. If you buy this set, or one of the similar styles the issue will be resolved.

Your 4 arm tap handle regardless of the spring should stay on of the locking nut can tighten. If its popping off then the there is an issue with the locking nut. Just get the handles I linked to fix the issue otherwise you will need to buy a new tap set
