How to extend carport roof to fenceline?

Hi there,

I would like to seek advise from experts.

I have a free standing carport one side of which is facing toward the reserve (fence line).

I want to cover it with sheets ( corrugated colorbond). Sheets seem to be laid out in a slop from carport's side beam toward fence top.

Please advise what fastener, purlins or battens are recommended and which way should I carry out this task.

I would advise against that type of roofing extension, your area is only held up via 4 posts and is peaked with no supports between the sides. I think it would put undue strain upon the structure as well as your fence.

Instead I would actually go the route of two posts with a beam at the top to create that same fall but are freestanding, I would add 2 more posts every 1.8m along the side so you end up with a steep angled awning. I would also suggest to add space at the bottom for a gutter and factor in where the water will go.

It would definently help ot with your area remaining drier.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Unfortunately, due to the wind loads applied to them, roofed structures like you are proposing will almost always require the submission of engineered plans for council approval.

There are also often rules regarding how close permanent structures can be built to your fence line.

I would suggest reaching out to your local council to explore what your requirements are before deciding on materials or a method for their installation.
