How to patch and paint walls?

Hi Team,

Recently got the position of the indoor unit of aircon changed which has left the wall in a state as shown in the picture. Can someone please advice on how to patch the holes after taking out the screws and then painting it to match the color of the wall.

Hi @khatriy,

You'd have to start by getting some paint to colour-match the wall. If you didn't have some, you would need to cut out a paint chip around the size of a 50c piece to take in store for colour matching. You could use a utility knife to cut out a small paint chip. Just remember to wear gloves and long protective clothing to limit the risk of lacerations from the knife.

With your patch, head in store and grab some colour-matched interior paint, Spakfilla, a sanding sponge, painter's tape, a paintbrush and a roller.

Use the small spatula provided with the Spakfilla to apply it to the screw holes and the patch you removed for colour matching. Once dry, give the filler a sand with your sanding sponge then brush down the wall to remove any powdery residue.

Once clean, apply painter's tape to the side of your air conditioner to protect it from paint, then apply your colour-matched paint with a brush and roller.

Filling the holes is easy, and you can use a damp cloth instead of sandpaper to smooth things out as the filler is water based. just let it dry between applications. I say applications because the filler tends to shrink as it dries, so a second application is advisable. However the edge around the old painting area will need a sanding to remove the ridge between the old paint and the new. I can't advise the best grit of sandpaper for this as I have never needed to do this but I am sure other here can assist with that.
