I was reading the January Bunnings magazine and came across the "Build yourself a pergola" project. Although I am 84 years of age I decided I could do this. Using the DIY bracket kit shown, it would fit my existing paved area.
The two brackets kits were ordered through my local Forbes Bunnings store and everything else was also purchased there.
I used 2.4 x 90mm x90mm premium treated pine posts. The length suited the area so no cutting required. The posts were painted prior to putting together. I erected two structures, one each end of my paved area with a similar space between. Sisal rope was spanned across each section including the space between, using screw eyes to attach. 90 percent shade cloth was spread across the entire length and secured with cable ties. I am very pleased with the result.
