How to revamp slate patio?

Hi all; desperately seeking some advice. My back patio has peeling and sun damaged slate. Some areas are ok but in others it has

either badly faded or has peeled off. I want to sell my house but need to do something with this area. Looking for advice and options....Thanks in Advance!!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am not aware of a D.I.Y. method that you could use to restore your slate as it appears to be delaminating in a number of places.

You could try giving it a good clean with a pressure washer and then resealing it with a slate sealer, but considering it is already damaged, there's a good chance that pressure cleaning it could cause more damage, and the sealer would just accentuate the damaged parts.

Unfortunately, I think your best option would be to contact a slate restoration company. As they specialise in this kind of work, they would be the best suited to offer you a recommendation. Fingers crossed it is not too far gone and they can fix it up for you.

I have slate in my backrooms, and I dont know of any easy way to cover up the cracks or to stop them flaking other then to pull them up and start afresh with something different.

As you are selling your place I wouldnt be spending money on the slate restoration, the new owners will want whatever they want and the money you spend to try and fix or redo might as well stay in your pocket. As long as its not a safty concern it really wont change the price a lot.

A solid clean with a coarse brush and a cleaning agent over high pressure might be the best route, have some plants in pots maybe for the lighter areas but not blocking the area out is another idea.
