How to fix a flicking LED lamp?

Hello,

I bought an LED desk lamp many years ago - not from Bunnings, tbh - and I have noticed that the light will come on, then for no reason turn off. If I adjust where the cord sits, the light comes back on.

I made an initial inspection, unscrewing 2 tiny screws which holds down an opaque dome onto the circuit board - see attached photos. These screws are impossible to get back in, not being able to get them close enough to the hole with fingers alone. The screwdriver I used does not magnetise the screw and the screw drops off.

There are really two likely causes here. The first, and most probable, is that there’s a break or loose connection in the cord or wiring. Since moving the cord makes the light come on and off, it suggests that a wire inside is either damaged or partially disconnected. The second possibility is that the LED module itself is failing.

In either case, repair isn’t very practical. Fixing a wiring fault would be considered electrical work and should only be carried out by a licensed electrician. If the LED module is failing, finding a suitable replacement part would be difficult.

For safety and convenience, I’d recommend replacing the lamp. Modern LED desk lamps are generally very affordable, and it’s a safer option than attempting to repair faulty electrical components yourself.
